🎬 Auto Flex 50mm F2.8 Vintage Cine Mod – Canon EF Full Frame Lens

Bring authentic vintage Japanese optics into a modern cinema setup with this Auto Flex 50mm F2.8 Cine-Mod prime lens, professionally prepared by TerPhoto for cinematography, filmmaking and professional video production.

Originally produced as a Japanese M42 manual-focus 50mm lens, the Auto Flex belongs to the classic generation of compact SLR standard primes. Period information from the late 1970s documents the Auto-Flex 50mm F2.8 as a four-element lens, and independent lens references describe its optical formula as being based on the classic Tessar-type design. This simple optical construction is appreciated by vintage-lens shooters for its traditional rendering, good central definition and distinctly non-modern character.

This example has been fully cleaned, adjusted and re-lubricated, then professionally adapted and calibrated for Canon EF mount. The aperture has been de-clicked, allowing smooth continuous iris adjustment during video recording rather than the stepped movement of the original photographic aperture mechanism.

A follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, allowing integration with standard cinema follow-focus systems for controlled manual focus pulls. The supplied cine hood has an 80mm outside diameter, making the lens more convenient to incorporate into a cinema-oriented rig.

The lens covers a full-frame sensor, making its 50mm focal length a true normal/standard field of view on full-frame Canon EF cameras and compatible cinema bodies. It is particularly useful for narrative filmmaking, interviews, portraits, music videos, commercial work and projects where a more organic vintage rendering is preferred over the highly corrected appearance of modern lenses.

The glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor age-related wear on the glass, typical for vintage optics of this period. According to inspection, these minor signs do not affect the final image. The exterior shows normal vintage signs of use visible in the listing photographs. The lens has been serviced and prepared for practical shooting rather than being sold merely as an untouched collectible.

The photographs show the actual lens offered for sale.

🎥 Why Choose This Lens?

The Auto Flex 50mm F2.8 offers an affordable route into genuine vintage full-frame optics while adding practical features needed on a modern cinema rig. Instead of digitally imitating a vintage look, you are shooting through period Japanese glass with a classic Tessar-style optical concept. The de-clicked iris makes exposure transitions smoother, while the geared focus ring provides more precise follow-focus operation. On full frame, 50mm is extremely versatile for portraits, interviews, medium shots, narrative coverage and detail work. TerPhoto’s cleaning, re-lubrication, adjustment and Canon EF conversion turn this compact vintage photographic prime into a practical character lens ready for contemporary filmmaking.
