A professionally prepared Carl Zeiss Jena DDR S 135mm F3.5, based on the legendary Sonnar 135mm f/3.5 optical design and converted by TerPhoto for cinematography and professional video production.

This vintage East German telephoto prime has been adapted and precisely adjusted for ARRI PL mount, giving filmmakers access to classic Carl Zeiss Jena rendering in a practical cinema-camera configuration. The lens provides full-frame 35mm sensor coverage, making it suitable for full-frame cinema cameras as well as Super 35 and smaller formats.

The original clicked photographic aperture mechanism has been de-clicked, allowing smooth continuous iris adjustments during a shot. Two cine-style follow-focus gears are installed: one for the focus control and one for the aperture control, allowing the lens to integrate more naturally with follow-focus systems and professional camera rigs.

Before conversion, the lens was fully cleaned, mechanically adjusted and re-lubricated. The focus and aperture systems were then prepared for cinema use and the lens was adapted and calibrated for the ARRI PL mount.

The glass is in good vintage condition. As expected with an original lens of this age, there may be very minor signs of wear on the optical surfaces, but these are not expected to affect the final captured image. The exterior also shows normal light cosmetic traces consistent with a genuine vintage lens and its professional conversion. The classic Sonnar construction is valued for its relatively simple optical formula and characteristic vintage rendering. Period references describe this 135mm f/3.5 version as a 4-element, 3-group design with a 6-blade diaphragm, 1-meter minimum focusing distance and 49mm original filter thread.

On a full-frame sensor it provides a classic medium-telephoto field of view, while on Super 35 it becomes an even tighter telephoto option.
