🎬 Hoya HMC Tele-Auto 135mm F2.8 Cine Mod – Canon EF | Oval Bokeh + Orange Flare

A professionally serviced and cine-modified Hoya HMC Tele-Auto 135mm F2.8, prepared by TerPhoto for cinematography, filmmaking and professional video work. This conversion is based on the original Japanese-made Hoya HMC Tele-Auto 135mm F2.8 manual-focus spherical telephoto prime and has been adapted and precisely adjusted for Canon EF mount.

The optical modification gives the lens a distinctive anamorphic-style cinematic character while remaining a spherical lens. It produces a neutral oval-shaped bokeh effect together with striking orange horizontal-style flare characteristics, creating an anamorphic-inspired image without an anamorphic adapter or de-squeezing workflow. For a finished widescreen presentation, simply add 2.35:1 aspect-ratio bars in post-production.

The aperture has been de-clicked, allowing smooth and stepless iris adjustments during recording. A follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, making the lens practical for use with follow-focus systems, shoulder rigs, cages and cinema camera setups.

This 135mm lens covers a full-frame sensor, making it especially attractive for portraits, close-ups, interviews, fashion work, music videos and narrative cinematography where strong background compression and selective focus are desired. The F2.8 maximum aperture offers good subject separation, while the long focal length produces the classic compressed perspective associated with vintage 135mm portrait lenses.

Hoya HMC Tele-Auto series belongs to Hoya's classic late-1970s manual-focus period. HMC refers to Hoya's multi-coating system.

The lens has been fully cleaned, mechanically adjusted and re-lubricated before the cine conversion. Focus operation has been prepared for controlled manual focusing, and the lens has been adapted and adjusted for Canon EF registration. Glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor wear on the optical surfaces consistent with the age of a vintage lens, and it will not affect the final image. The exterior shows normal cosmetic signs of previous use, including small marks and finish wear visible in the photographs. These are cosmetic and do not interfere with operation. This is a fully manual lens. Focusing and aperture control are performed directly on the lens, and there is no autofocus or electronic communication with the camera.

🎬 Why Choose This Lens?

Hoya HMC 135mm F2.8 is a strong choice for filmmakers looking for a real vintage telephoto image instead of the clinically corrected rendering of many modern lenses. The 135mm focal length creates strong perspective compression and excellent subject isolation, while the cine modification adds neutral oval bokeh and warm orange flare for an anamorphic-inspired character. Because the lens remains spherical, footage does not require de-squeezing, making it easy to integrate into normal Canon EF filmmaking workflows. The de-clicked aperture and follow-focus gear make it significantly more practical for controlled video production than an untouched vintage photography lens.
