🎬 Hoya HMC Tele-Auto 135mm F2.8 Cine Mod – Orange Anamorphic Look | Sony E
Bring distinctive vintage Japanese telephoto rendering to modern digital cinematography with this professionally modified Hoya HMC Tele-Auto 135mm F2.8 Cine Lens. Originally created during the classic manual-focus 35mm SLR era, this Made-in-Japan Hoya has been cleaned, serviced, modified and adapted by TerPhoto for professional filmmaking and video production.
This is not simply a vintage photo lens with an adapter attached. The lens has been prepared specifically for cinema use. The aperture has been de-clicked, allowing smooth, continuous iris adjustments during filming, while two follow-focus gears provide geared control of both focus and aperture.
The optical modification creates a distinctive orange oval anamorphic-style bokeh together with beautiful orange cinematic flares. Unlike a true anamorphic taking lens, this remains a spherical lens, so there is no anamorphic de-squeezing required in post-production. For an anamorphic-inspired presentation, simply crop or add black bars to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio during editing.
At 135mm and F2.8, the lens is particularly attractive for cinematic portraits, close-ups, detail shots, interviews, music videos, narrative filmmaking and stylized commercial work. On a full-frame Sony camera, it retains the classic 135mm telephoto field of view and offers strong subject separation.
The lens covers a full-frame sensor and is adapted and adjusted for Sony E-mount, making it suitable for compatible Sony E-mount and Cinema Line bodies while remaining a completely manual lens.
The glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor age-related wear on the optical surfaces, typical of a lens of this period. In our assessment, this does not affect the final image. Please inspect the supplied high-resolution photographs for the exact cosmetic and optical condition of this individual lens.
The lens has been fully cleaned, adjusted and re-lubricated. Focus and aperture mechanisms have been prepared for smooth manual operation, and the lens has been adapted and adjusted for Sony E-mount use.
Hoya’s HMC manual-focus lenses belong to the Japanese SLR era of approximately the late 1970s and early 1980s. HMC stands for Hoya Multi-Coating, and surviving period information confirms Hoya HMC lenses were being sold by the early 1980s. The 135mm F2.8 belongs to the classic generation of compact manual-focus telephoto primes. References for this Hoya 135mm list a traditional 4-element/4-group optical construction. Hoya lenses from this period are frequently associated with Japanese manufacturing, including Tokina-related designs, although the exact Hoya 135mm version should not be assumed to be optically identical to every contemporary Tokina 135/2.8 variant.
This TerPhoto modification preserves that vintage optical character while transforming the lens into a far more practical filmmaking tool.

🎬 Why Choose This Lens?
The Hoya HMC 135mm F2.8 Cine Mod is designed for filmmakers who want something noticeably different from the clean, highly corrected look of modern digital lenses. Its vintage Japanese optics, long 135mm focal length and F2.8 aperture give portraits and close-ups strong separation, while TerPhoto’s orange oval-bokeh and flare modification introduces an anamorphic-inspired character without requiring a true anamorphic workflow. The de-clicked aperture, dual cine gears, 80mm OD front and Sony E-mount adaptation make it much easier to integrate into a modern cinema rig. It is an especially interesting creative lens for Sony FX3, FX6, FX9 and Alpha-series filmmakers shooting narrative films, music videos, interviews, fashion, automotive content and stylized commercials.
