🎬 Kiron Kino Precision MC 28mm F2.8 Cine Mod – Anamorphic-Style Bokeh – Fujifilm X
A professionally modified vintage Kiron / Kino Precision MC 28mm F2.8 wide-angle prime, prepared by TerPhoto for cinematography, filmmaking and professional video work. This lens combines genuine 1980s Japanese vintage optics with practical cine modifications and a distinctive neutral oval bokeh modification designed to give footage an anamorphic-inspired visual character.
Unlike a true anamorphic lens, this is a spherical lens with a modified aperture/bokeh characteristic, so there is no image squeeze and no de-squeezing required in post-production. For a classic widescreen presentation, simply add approximately 2.35:1 cinematic black bars during editing. The oval out-of-focus highlights can add a distinctive cinematic atmosphere while retaining the straightforward workflow of a conventional spherical prime.
The aperture mechanism has been de-clicked, allowing smooth, continuous iris adjustments during video recording rather than the stepped exposure changes of a standard photography lens. A 0.8-pitch follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, making the lens much more convenient for use with professional follow-focus systems, camera cages and cinema rigs.
This example started life as an Olympus OM-mount Kiron 28mm F2.8 and has been professionally adapted and adjusted for Fujifilm X (FX) mount use. It remains a fully manual lens, giving the cinematographer direct mechanical control over focus and aperture.
The lens provides full-frame optical coverage. On Fujifilm X APS-C cameras, the 28mm focal length produces a field of view roughly comparable to a 42mm lens on full frame, making it especially useful as a natural-looking general-purpose cine prime for narrative filmmaking, music videos, interviews, documentary work, street scenes and stylized commercial productions.
Before modification and sale, the lens has been fully cleaned, adjusted and re-lubricated. It has also been adapted and adjusted specifically for Fujifilm X mount.
Glass condition: The glass is in good vintage condition. There are very minor signs of wear on the optical surfaces, typical for a lens of this age. These minor marks do not affect the final image under normal shooting conditions.
Body condition: Good vintage condition with normal age-related cosmetic wear. Please examine the detailed photographs, which form part of the description. The focus gear, cine hood and Fujifilm X adaptation are already installed and ready for use.
The original Kiron lens line was created by Kino Precision Industries of Japan, an optical manufacturer founded in 1959. Kino had previously produced lenses for other brands, notably including Vivitar, before introducing lenses under its own Kiron identity around 1980. Kiron became known for Japanese-made manual-focus lenses during the 1980s. This Cine Mod is based on the original Kiron / Kino Precision MC 28mm F2.8 manual-focus wide-angle prime from that 35mm SLR era, preserving its vintage optical character while making it substantially more practical for modern digital filmmaking.

🎬 Why Choose This Lens?
This Kiron 28mm F2.8 is an interesting choice for filmmakers who want a genuine vintage image without giving up practical cine-rig features. Its neutral oval bokeh modification introduces an anamorphic-inspired aesthetic while retaining a normal spherical workflow with no de-squeezing. The de-clicked aperture makes exposure transitions smoother, while the 0.8-pitch focus gear provides precise compatibility with standard follow-focus systems. On Fujifilm X cameras, its approximately 42mm full-frame-equivalent field of view is extremely versatile, sitting between a traditional wide angle and normal lens. Combined with Japanese vintage optics, full-frame coverage and TerPhoto servicing, it is a compact character lens suitable for narrative filmmaking, music videos, interviews, commercials and experimental cinematography.
