A professionally prepared Pentacon Auto 100mm F2.8 vintage cine-mod lens, adapted and adjusted for Sony E-mount cameras. This classic East German 100mm short telephoto has been modified by TerPhoto for cinematography, filmmaking, professional video production, and creative photography.

The lens has been fully cleaned, mechanically adjusted and re-lubricated before adaptation. The aperture has been professionally de-clicked, providing smooth, continuous iris adjustment instead of the original photographic click stops. This is particularly useful for video, where gradual exposure changes can be made during a shot. Two cine-style follow-focus gears are installed: one for the focus ring and one for the aperture ring. They allow the lens to integrate more conveniently with follow-focus systems and other cinema-camera accessories, providing precise manual focus pulls and aperture control. The lens is supplied with an 80mm OD cine-style lens hood, helping create a more standardized cinema-oriented front setup while also protecting the front element and reducing unwanted stray light.

This Pentacon is a full-frame 35mm lens and covers the full-frame sensor area when used on compatible Sony E-mount cameras such as the Sony Alpha and FX series. It can also be used on APS-C Sony E-mount bodies, where the 100mm focal length gives a tighter field of view.

The glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor age-related wear on the optical surfaces, typical for a vintage lens of this period. Historically, the Pentacon Auto 2.8/100 is closely related to the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestor 100mm F2.8. The Orestor appeared during the 1960s, and after Meyer-Optik became integrated into the East German Pentacon organization, the optical design continued under the Pentacon name. Sources describe the Pentacon version as essentially retaining the Orestor’s 5-element / 4-group optical formula. The Pentacon 100mm F2.8 belongs mainly to the 1970s era and is a relatively uncommon member of the classic GDR short-telephoto family.

Its combination of 100mm focal length and F2.8 maximum aperture makes it especially attractive for portraits, close framing, interviews, detail shots, narrative filmmaking and other situations where subject separation is desired.
