🎬 Pentacon MC Prakticar 50mm F1.8 Cine Mod – Oval Anamorphic-Style Bokeh – Canon EF

Professionally prepared by TerPhoto, this vintage Pentacon MC Prakticar 50mm F1.8 has been modified for cinematography, filmmaking and professional video production. The lens has been fully cleaned, mechanically adjusted and re-lubricated, then adapted and calibrated for Canon EF mount use.

The aperture has been de-clicked, allowing smooth, stepless iris adjustments during recording instead of the traditional photographic click stops. A cine follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, making the lens practical for use with follow-focus systems and cinema rigs.

A special spherical cine modification gives the lens a neutral oval / anamorphic-style bokeh character. Unlike a true anamorphic optic, the lens does not squeeze the image and therefore requires no de-squeezing in post-production. For an anamorphic-inspired presentation, simply compose or crop to a cinematic ratio such as 2.35:1. This gives filmmakers an easy way to introduce an oval-bokeh aesthetic while retaining a straightforward spherical workflow.

The 50mm F1.8 specification makes it a versatile normal prime on full-frame cameras, suitable for narrative filmmaking, interviews, portraits, music videos, commercials and atmospheric low-light work. The lens covers a full-frame 35mm sensor.

Glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor age-related wear on the optical surfaces, typical for a lens of this period, which should not affect the final image under normal shooting conditions. The barrel and mount show light cosmetic signs of previous use consistent with age. Please review the supplied photographs for the exact cosmetic condition of this individual lens.

Historically, the Prakticar 50mm F1.8 belonged to Pentacon's Praktica B system and was produced in East Germany around the late 1970s through the 1980s. The Prakticar 50/1.8 was the Praktica B-mount development of Pentacon's earlier 50mm F1.8 family, whose lineage traces back to the Meyer-Optik GΓΆrlitz Oreston 50mm F1.8. Published specifications for the early Prakticar version list a 6-element / 4-group optical construction, 49mm filter thread and 0.33m close-focus distance.

🎬 Why Choose This Lens?

The Pentacon Prakticar 50mm F1.8 is a strong option for filmmakers who want genuine East German vintage rendering with a more production-friendly cine setup. Its fast F1.8 aperture, full-frame coverage and 50mm perspective work well for portraits, dialogue scenes, interviews and narrative filmmaking, while the oval-bokeh modification adds an anamorphic-inspired visual character without introducing a squeezed image or a de-squeeze workflow. The de-clicked aperture makes exposure transitions smoother during recording, and the geared focusing ring integrates easily with a follow-focus system. Combined with the Canon EF adaptation, this is a practical way to bring classic Pentacon character into a modern cinema rig.
