Originally designed as a manual-focus standard lens for Ricoh’s K-mount 35mm SLR system, this example has been adapted and precisely adjusted for Canon EF mount. It covers the full-frame sensor, making it an excellent vintage prime for Canon EF cinema and DSLR cameras, as well as mirrorless/cinema systems when used with the appropriate EF adapter.

For cinema use, the aperture has been de-clicked, allowing smooth iris adjustments without the original photographic click stops. A follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, providing improved compatibility with professional follow-focus systems and making controlled manual focus pulls considerably more practical.

The lens has been fully cleaned, adjusted and re-lubricated. Its mechanical operation has been prepared for continued use in a modern production environment while retaining the optical character of the original vintage lens.

The glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor age-related wear on the glass, typical for a vintage optic of this period. According to our inspection, this minor wear does not affect the final image. The exterior shows normal signs of previous use consistent with its age; please examine the detailed product photographs for the exact cosmetic condition of this individual lens.

An 80mm OD cine lens hood is included. In addition to providing practical flare protection, the hood gives the compact Rikenon a more production-friendly front profile.

A little history: The XR Rikenon 50mm F2 family appeared during Ricoh’s late-1970s transition to K-mount SLR cameras and was offered as a standard lens with Ricoh bodies. The XR Rikenon 50mm F2 L is a later, lightweight generation of the original XR Rikenon 50mm F2 concept, appearing around 1980/early 1980s. Period-family specifications and enthusiast references identify the L version as retaining the classic 50mm F2 optical concept while using a lighter barrel and a minimum focusing distance of approximately 0.6m. The early XR Rikenon 50/2 and L versions have also developed a strong following among vintage-lens enthusiasts for their sharp rendering and classic Japanese optical character.
