Originally designed as a manual-focus standard lens for 35mm film cameras, the XR Rikenon 50mm F2 S belongs to Ricoh’s classic Rikenon 50mm family. The S generation appeared around 1981, during Ricoh’s compact XR SLR era. Contemporary references list the lens as a 6-element / 5-group design with a 6-blade diaphragm, and the S version is generally associated with Nitto Optics production rather than the Tomioka-made earlier generations. The original lens used the Ricoh/Pentax K-type mount; this example has been professionally adapted and adjusted for Canon EF mount. This is a genuine vintage optic rather than a modern lens designed to imitate a retro look. Its 50mm focal length provides a natural perspective on full-frame cameras and works particularly well for portraits, narrative filmmaking, interviews, music videos, commercials and creative cinematic footage. The lens covers a full-frame sensor, making it suitable for full-frame cinema and video applications when used with a compatible Canon EF camera or cinema body.

For cinema use, the aperture has been de-clicked, allowing smooth continuous iris adjustments instead of the original stepped photographic aperture operation. A follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, providing more precise and repeatable manual focus operation with standard cinema follow-focus equipment.

The lens has been fully cleaned, adjusted and re-lubricated. It has also been adapted and individually adjusted for the Canon EF mount. Focus and aperture operation have been prepared with practical filmmaking use in mind.

The glass is in good vintage condition. There is very minor age-related wear on the optical surfaces, typical for a lens of this period. This minor wear does not affect the final image in normal shooting conditions. The body also shows normal cosmetic signs consistent with the lens’s vintage age; please inspect the listing photographs for the exact cosmetic condition of this individual lens. Please note: the distance scale markings on the focusing ring are almost erased due to age. On this lens the markings were painted at the factory rather than engraved into the barrel, so decades of normal handling have caused much of the scale to wear away. This is a cosmetic age-related characteristic and does not prevent manual focusing or use with the installed follow-focus gear.

The included 80mm OD cine lens hood helps integrate the compact vintage lens into a cinema-oriented setup while also providing practical shading around the front element.
