🎬 Sigma 90mm F2.8 Macro Cine Mod | Sony E-Mount | Full-Frame Vintage Prime

A professionally prepared Sigma Multi-Coated 90mm F2.8 Macro vintage prime lens, cine-modified by TerPhoto for cinematography, filmmaking, professional video production, portrait work, product photography and creative macro shooting.

This is the classic manual-focus Sigma 90mm F2.8 Macro, now professionally adapted and adjusted for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. The lens covers a full-frame sensor, making it suitable for Sony Alpha full-frame cameras as well as APS-C Sony E bodies.

For cinema use, the original aperture mechanism has been de-clicked, allowing smooth and continuous iris adjustment during filming instead of the stepped aperture changes found on a standard photography lens. A follow-focus gear is installed on the focusing ring, providing precise mechanical control with standard cinema follow-focus systems and making repeatable focus pulls significantly easier.

Before sale, the lens has been fully cleaned, mechanically adjusted and re-lubricated. The Sony E-mount adaptation has also been fitted and adjusted to provide correct operation on compatible Sony mirrorless cameras.

The glass is in good vintage condition. As expected from an optical item of this age, there may be very minor signs of previous use or very light wear on the glass. These are cosmetic characteristics typical of vintage lenses and do not affect the final image under normal shooting conditions. The lens body also shows normal vintage signs of handling and use consistent with its age. Please examine the listing photographs carefully, as they show the actual lens offered for sale.

The Sigma 90mm F2.8 Macro belongs to Sigma's compact manual-focus macro generation from the late 1980s. The original lens was designed as a dedicated 90mm macro/short-telephoto prime and close-focusing capability and F2.8 maximum aperture made it useful not only for macro work but also for portraits, detail shots and product photography.

In its original configuration, this lens provides approximately 1:2 half-macro reproduction, giving considerably closer focusing than a conventional portrait lens. For filmmakers, this means one compact prime can move from portrait compositions to inserts, textures, hands, objects, jewelry, tabletop details and other close-up shots without immediately changing to a dedicated modern cinema macro.

The 90mm focal length is especially attractive for cinematic portrait work. On a full-frame Sony camera it produces a compressed perspective and naturally separates a subject from the background, while the F2.8 aperture allows controlled depth of field. The vintage multi-coated optics provide a distinctly different rendering from highly corrected modern lenses, making this Sigma a useful choice for filmmakers who want an organic, less clinical image.

The lens remains fully manual after adaptation. Focusing and aperture control are performed directly on the lens, which is often preferred for cinema rigs because it gives the operator predictable mechanical control rather than electronic focus-by-wire behavior.

🎬 Why Choose This Lens?

The Sigma 90mm F2.8 Macro is an excellent option for filmmakers who want a real vintage short-telephoto prime with genuine macro capability. On a full-frame Sony camera, 90mm works beautifully for close portraits, facial details, interviews, beauty shots, product cinematography and compressed cinematic compositions. Its close-focus ability also makes it particularly useful for inserts and detail work. The de-clicked aperture allows smooth exposure changes while filming, while the fitted follow-focus gear provides precise focusing with cinema accessories. Unlike a modern electronically controlled lens, this fully manual Sigma offers direct mechanical operation together with the distinctive rendering of late-1980s Japanese optics.
